"Feelings...nothing more than feelings"

"Music is what feelings sound like." When the words are caught in your throat along with your heart. And you open your mouth, but nothing comes out.....music speaks for you. When the world crashes and you're so pissed you can't see straight....music calms you. Music is the remedy for what ails ya. Whether it's ear buds, headphones, car stereo on an old dirt road, or that wonderful crackle when you, "spin, spin, spin the black circle".....music is there.

One of my favorite records growing up (and still is one of my favorites to this day) is B.B. King Live at San Quentin. The rawness of that live record in front of hundreds of prisoners is electrifying. From The Thrill is Gone,  and Sweet Little Angel, to Nobody Loves me but My Mother. It's a master class in not just the Blues, but music in general. Right before Nobody Loves me but my Mother B.B. says: “The blues are good for what ails ya….” And I think that's true of music in general, as I stated above. No matter what stage or “season” you're in, music is always there.

Music reaches deeper still. Go to any concert or festival. You'll see Christian, Atheist, Agnostic, Republican, Democrat, Black, White, Hispanic, Asian, Male, Female, Rich, Poor, and everything in between. Outside of the front of that stage, ideologically these people are enemy's. They may not even look at the other person on the street. But you add a stage, and music, and that bullshit fades. the labels we add to ourselves and others, disappears. That is the power of music. The same music that takes you back to high school days, is the same music that makes you forget why you even cared what someone else's political beliefs are. Music is the universal language of love. “So get in the pit and try to love someone!”
